6 week Art Class looking at different media: introduction, information and practice with materials and techniques: relax and enjoy a creative session with like minded people. Suitable for complete beginners, people wanting to learn and relax, and anyone interested in finding out more about drawing and painting. Learn principals and techniques of working with different media to develop confidence in you own creative practice, develop skills and ideas working in a lovely studio space with a qualified and experienced Art teacher / professional Artist. Class notes and extension practice emailed after each session, work of known artists will be used for inspiration. All materials available to buy (in a tote bag for £60 at first session – or please bring ALL equipment on materials listed each week).

1 PENCIL
First session will focus on FORM – 3D shapes – cuboids, spheres, prism – basics of creating form – learn about the concept of drawing with wire.Materials: pencils, HB, 3B, 6B, or selection of soft graphite drawing pencils, soft eraser, paper – A3 heavy cartridge sheets or sketchbook.
2 PEN AND INK / Pen and Wash
Rosie trained initially as an Archaeological site and find illustrator, technical drawing – with particular rules of mark making to generate form and surface to depict materials: learn about mark making for form and texture, using ink.
Materials: fine liner – 0.5mm nib or smaller, selection of different nibs, A3 sketchbook heavy cartridge paper/ sheets, washable – nonpermanent fibre tip pen .5mm, and soft brush for wash techniques
3 CHARCOAL AND CHALK
Learn about this most ancient of materials, mark making, consider tonal value, form and texture.
Materials: willow charcoal sticks and white chalk (school black board) , soft eraser, paper A3 heavy cartridge sheets or sketchbook. – any coloured / pastel texture paper / sugar paper
4 WATERCOLOUR
What is colour? – colour mixing, colour wheel, complementary colour – begin to explore the use of colour in developing technique with watercolour.
Materials: small set of basic watercolours, 2 yellows, 2 reds, 2 blues, and black as minimum – pans or tubes good) large and small soft wash brushes, heavy cartridge – or selection of watercolour papers,
5. SELECTING COMPOSITION
Look at the work of well known still life Artists, Cezanne, Blackadder etc to consider composition, Materials: small set of basic watercolours, 2 yellows, 2 reds, 2 blues, and black as minimum – pans or tubes good) large and small soft wash brushes, heavy cartridge – or selection of watercolour papers,
6.DEVELOP A FINAL PIECE OF WORK / Finish everything
The final session allows opportunity to revisit anything covered in the course – complete anything that is unfinished, develop ideas, consider abstraction – and enjoy a first mince pie!! Materials: anything you would like to work with – covered on this course.
